History PD is often focused on sharing resources, and this assumes that the teachers are already experts in the area of focus. Teachers, while well-meaning, may deploy new curriculum without being fully informed on the scholarship. This can undermine instruction, leaving gaps and, sometimes, misinformation. In the current political climate, teaching LGBTQ+ history is vital to our students. A lack of teacher knowledge can lead to discomfort, and the tendency to shy away from these topics. This session utilizes primary and secondary sources to build a basic understanding of LGBTQ+ history, as well as dispel common myths and misinformation. It can be especially helpful for social science and English teachers of all levels, as well as anyone that would like to know more about this vibrant, yet hidden history.
